Miscarriage Leave Across the UK: How We are Helping Organisations to Prepare
In July 2025, it was announced by the UK Government that families suffering from pregnancy loss would now be able to take unpaid bereavement leave.
Additionally, it has recently been announced that Northern Ireland will be the first country in the UK to provide paid bereavement leave to both partners. This will allow families to take much-needed leave from work, with less financial pressure.
These changes are a real step in the right direction. Statutory bereavement leave will allow families the legal right to take time off to process their grief and to support one another.
However, we do know that this will bring some change to the workplace. We want to equip employers, HR professionals and managers with the knowledge, confidence and practical tools needed to prepare effectively, supporting employees meaningfully, and implementing change in a way that goes beyond minimum requirements.
In light of this, we wanted to highlight a number of events that MISS will be hosting in partnership with MIST. These events are part of our Miscarriage & Fertility At Work series and will aim to help organisations to better support employees affected by pregnancy loss, fertility challenges, and childlessness.
Two particularly relevant events include:
Statutory Leave for Pregnancy Loss: Preparing for Change (2nd of September 2026) This interactive session is to help employers prepare for change, support employees meaningfully, and go beyond minimum requirements to create a compassionate, inclusive and progressive workplace
Preparing for 2027: Pregnancy Loss Bereavement Leave (25th of November 2026) In this bite-sized session, we will be giving workplaces a practical overview of what matters most right now - helping you identify any gaps, challenges and take final steps ahead of the change.
Both events will be held online, completely free of charge, to ensure that the information provided is accessible to as large an audience as possible.
