Our Memorial Gardens

Our memorial gardens offer peaceful spaces where those affected by pregnancy and baby loss can reflect, remember, and find moments of solace. Each garden has been thoughtfully created in collaboration with partners who share our commitment to supporting bereaved families.

Our journey to create this special space began in 2022, when our CEO, Abi, approached Aberdeen City Council with a vision for a tranquil outdoor sanctuary where grieving families could reconnect with nature. The council identified a fitting location at the crematorium, and soon after, we partnered with Aberdeen Sands – who share our commitment to supporting bereaved families.

Paving stones now guide visitors through the garden, leading them past four benches, each engraved with words of comfort from our support team. At the heart of the space stands a beehive post box, where bereaved parents can write biodegradable letters on seeded paper – messages we later plant in the wildflower section, allowing love and memories to blossom.

We are excited for the garden’s future. Plans include the addition of granite mushrooms featuring artwork by local schoolchildren, a memorial espalier tree, and an ever-growing variety of flowers to ensure this remains a flourishing sanctuary. We are also in the early stages of planning a second Forget-Me-Not Garden in Moray.

"Miscarriage still feels somewhat taboo, but the garden is a place where I’m reminded that I’m not alone and it’s ok to feel sad about the baby I lost."

"Posting a letter in the postbox was more cathartic than I expected, it’s nice to think the letters will become part of the garden in time too."

"The forget-me-not garden is a calm and positive place to go, I like being able to stop by whenever I want."

Butterfly Garden

In partnership with Aberdeen Sands and the Archie Foundation, MISS is honoured to have contributed to the creation of the Butterfly Garden – a space for parents who have experienced unimaginable loss.

Opened on August 3, 2022, this garden is located at Gordon & Watson Funeral Directors on Great Northern Road. We invite families to visit this comforting space, where we hope they can find solace and support during such a difficult time.
