Volunteering

A graphical rendering of a Flower

Since we started in 2017, over 100 amazing people — from students to retirees, from Aberdeen to London — have contributed an incredible 10,120+ volunteering hours in support of our cause. We currently have over 35 volunteers. We highly value our volunteers; without them, we wouldn’t be here providing the services we do.

Ways to Volunteer

Knit for MISS

The majority of the teddies that go in our memory boxes are knitted by our knitting volunteers. Our memory boxes bring comfort to couples and individuals at a very difficult time.

Garden Maintenance

Our Forget-Me-Not garden requires regular maintenance by our gardening crew, who meet monthly. No previous experience needed; all equipment provided!

Engagement

We started in Aberdeen, but our services are for the whole of Scotland — Raising awareness in communities is so important.

Saltire Awards

We support young people in their Saltire Award journey. See our young people page for more information.

Charity Shop

Our charity shop in Laurencekirk is a hub in the community, and a lively place for locals to volunteer.

Befriending

Our befriending service facilitates people with lived experience of baby loss to become contacts for service users to call and message. This is purely a listening service; all training provided.

Fundraising & Events

Our fundraising team comes up with event ideas, then plans, prepares for and runs our events to raise much needed funds. We always need volunteers to help run our events.

If you're interested in any of these opportunities and have skills to help us thrive — or are eager to learn and grow alongside our team — then we want to hear from you!

Please take a moment to fill out the Volunteer form and join us in our mission. You can also see our opportunities through Volunteer Scotland.

  • Skills development

  • Mental health benefits

  • Increases social connections

  • Gives a sense of purpose

  • Makes a difference in your community

  • Enhances your CV

“I completed a counselling skills course and wanted to continue to learn and develop my skills. I am excited to have the opportunity to volunteer in the support team for MISS. I feel that MISS does great work to support women through difficult times. I am passionate about the cause and it is fulfilling to be able to help support women through the trauma of miscarriage”

Support volunteer

“One thing I've really enjoyed is getting to share my opinions and getting to hear everyone else’s ideas and working as a team. I would 100% recommend volunteering with MISS as everyone is very lovely and supportive. For those considering volunteering, you should go for it. There is nothing to fear. Everyone at MISS is here to support you.”

Fundraising and Events volunteer

“The support, encouragement, and belief MISS have in their volunteers made me feel valued from day one. Volunteering here has played a crucial role in helping me secure a paid position in another health charity, and I truly believe that my experience with MISS made all the difference in getting that opportunity.”

Fundraising and Community engagement volunteer

"Volunteering with MISS brings me comfort that I can help others going through the same loss we experienced. It is extremely rewarding to be involved with a charity that is always evolving and supporting so many families throughout Scotland."

Trustee and Media volunteer

“Being part of the MISS board is really rewarding because it's a chance to give my time and expertise to a cause I care about, while also learning and growing my skills along the way”.
