Miles for Memories and the Benefits of Exercise
Move More for the 1 in 4…
This spring, we here at MISS are encouraging you to walk, run, cycle or swim every day for one month to help fundraise for 1 in 4 expectant mothers impacted by miscarriage.
Funds raised during Miles for Memories will go a long way in supporting the work that we do, but we also want to give you some reasons as to why moving even just a little every day can benefit you!
One of the biggest benefits of regular exercise is the positive impact it can have on your mental health. This includes improving your quality of sleep, boosting mood & confidence, reducing stress levels and helping to manage symptoms of both anxiety and depression.
Additionally, according to the NHS, just 150 minutes of physical activity a week (just over 20 minutes a day) can reduce your risk of a range of physical health issues, including: coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer.
We are finally coming out of a cold and dark Scottish winter. Exercise can be a wonderful way to get outside and appreciate the extra hours of sun, the daffodils and crocuses in bloom and the (slightly!) warmer weather.
In addition to all of this, exercise can fit around your needs! It can be a great way to socialise through classes and groups, or if you would prefer a little more me time, you can use a daily walk or run to give yourself some thinking space.
Miles for Memories can be a great habit-building tool. By participating every day for a month, as part of a community, you can build the habit of regular exercise and experience all of the above benefits long-term.
