Sustainability and MISS at Christmas
Sustainability is incredibly important to us at MISS, from the events that we host to supporting the circular economy through our charity shop. We want you to be able to get really special gifts for your loved ones this Christmas in a way that is both friendly to your budget and to our environment.
There can be quite a lot of pressure to spend more than you are comfortable with during the holiday season. Buying second-hand can allow you to still participate in this season of giving without spending a fortune, all while helping the work we do here at MISS.
You could make up a package of books for the reader in your life, pick out an outfit for your stylish yet environmentally conscious friend, grab some new toys that the little ones will love or perhaps even suggest that this year's work secret Santa be exclusively second-hand gems.
This is what Rachael, our Charity Shop Manager, had to say: “Our charity shop plays a vital role in the Laurencekirk community by promoting sustainable fashion and reducing waste. We receive hundreds of donations each week, giving pre-loved clothing and goods a second life while preventing them from going to landfill. By reusing and recycling these items, we help protect the environment and make quality items more affordable for everyone.”
We aim to make everything as accessible as we possibly can. Children's clothes are always £2 per item, and we often have promotions where all clothes are £1 per item, so we can do our best to ensure everything is affordable for as many people as possible.
We also recycle the donations we cannot sell through a partnership with ClydeRecycling and Nathan’s Waste Savers. This means that no donations end up in landfill, which is incredibly important when the UK alone produces over 200,000 tonnes of fashion waste a year. We want the work we do to help reduce this.
So perhaps this Christmas, consider charity shops for the gifts under your tree!
